PREFACE
Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Preface browser extension ("the Extension"), developed and owned by Preface Prep ("we," "us," or "our"). By installing, accessing, or using the Extension, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Extension.
1. Ownership
The Extension, including but not limited to its source code, design, user interface, structure, and all associated content, is the exclusive intellectual property of Preface Prep. All rights not expressly granted to you under these Terms are reserved.
2. License Grant
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Extension for your personal or internal business use, in accordance with the Chrome Web Store's terms of service.
3. Restrictions
You agree that you will not, and will not permit any third party to:
- Copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works based on the Extension's source code, in whole or in part;
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code or underlying structure of the Extension;
- Modify, adapt, translate, or create a competing product based substantially on the Extension's code or design;
- Remove, obscure, or alter any proprietary notices contained in or on the Extension;
- Use the Extension for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable law.
4. User Data
When you highlight text on a webpage, Preface sends the highlighted text (up to 500 characters) and the page's article title to our backend service in order to generate contextual information via a third-party AI provider. If the highlighted text appears to reference a financial instrument or publicly traded company, it may also be sent to retrieve live market data from a third-party financial data provider.
Preface does not access, read, or transmit the full content of any webpage, your browsing history, or any other page data beyond the specific text you highlight and the page's title.
Preface stores your recent lookup history and extension settings locally on your device. This locally stored data is not transmitted to us and can be cleared at any time using the "Clear" button in the extension popup.
5. No Warranty
The Extension is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Preface Prep shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or business opportunities, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Extension.
7. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Extension at any time, without notice, if you violate these Terms.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Extension after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
9. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
